Hårkan and Långan- Jämtland Classics
Hårkan and Långan are two pearls in north of Östersund in Jämtland, Sweden. Easily accesible, easily fished and lots of nice pools and runs. Hårkan is a bit bigger, while Långan is the "baby" of the two but still quite a medium sized river. The two rivers are fed by water out of the western border to Norway, and are thus clear and cold. However, the times I've been there I can definitely note that
the rivers are very sensitive to waterfall or a lack thereof. Like most Swedish rivers they are controlled upstream by hydro power stations and if there is no rain, there is not much water. Nonetheless, fish are there to be caught, there are always good hatches, the wilderness is beautiful and the fishing is quite good.
My friends and I have been taking an annual trip to Hårkan and Långan, and will continue to do this in the future. Some pictures below are from the last two years. From our first year, pictures are missing due to an accident and a camera at the bottom of the river somewhere, nice one Davie!
Tips:
There is a Systemet in the shopping area outside of Östersund. However, a trip in to town during rainy days is priceless! Östersund is more than a fishing place, visit the city and check out all the outdoor offerings they have in both summer and winter!
